WWI DDay Soldiers- STS School Battlefield Tour

D-Day June 1944

After five years of war, the Allied Forces were able to liberate Europe from the Nazis, after their successful landings on the beaches of Normandy.

Following months of painstaking planning, the Allies were able to land a huge force of men and machinery, breaching Hitler's Atlantic Wall, before advancing into France.

Sample Itinerary - 5 DAY TO NORMANDY WWII LANDINGS BY COACH
Day 1	Depart school in the morning to connect with channel crossing. Arrive at the Chateâu du Baffy in time for the evening meal.
Day 2	Morning: Arromanches town, the D-Day landings Museum and 360° Cinema. Afternoon: American Cemetery in Coleville, Omaha Beach, Longues-sur-Mer and Pointe du Hoc. Evening: French themed evening with frog's legs and snail tastings.
Day 3	Morning at leisure. Afternoon: Caen Memorial Museum, Memorial Pegasus Museum and Merville Gun Battery. Evening: Film Night
Day 4	Morning: Bayeux town and Bayeaux Memorial Museum and British Cemetery. Afternoon: Juno Beach and Juno Beach Centre. Evening: Disco
Day 5	Depart after breakfast for an evening arrival home.
Excursion Selection History & Landmarks Merville Gun Battery - Merville-Franceville This museum retraces the conditions and unfolding of the operation carried out by British 6th Airbourne Div. Pegasus Memorial Museum - Ranville-Benouville At dawn on 6th June 1944 the first allied troops arrived in Ranville-Benouville. Relive their story and learn about their heroic combat to liberate the region. Atlantic Wall Museum - Ouistreham In a former artillery range-finding post on the Atlantic Wall, this restored and re-equipped concrete tower is the only one of its kind. Juno Beach Centre - Courseulles-sur-Mer The only Canadian Museum of the Landing Beaches, the Juno Beach Centre explains the role of Canada in the Second World War. America Gold Beach Museum - Ver-sur-Mer This museum recounts the 1st airmail flight between the USA and France, together with a retrospective of the D-Day landing and the British beachhead on Gold Beach. Arromanches 360 - Arromanches This 360° film show of events is an unforgettable experience. Arromanches Landing Museum - This museumis dedicated to the incredible feat of technology achieved by the British in building and setting up the artificial harbour. Longes-sur-Mer Gun Battery This German artillery battery, which gave the Allied ships a pounding on the morning of the 6th June, is the only coastal battery to have kept its guns. Museum of Underwater wrecks of the invasion - Port-en-Bessin Collection of impressive remains and personal items founds in the great warships sunk on/around 6 June 1944. Memorial of the Battle of Normandy, Bayeux Located in the first town in France to be liberated, the museum's diplays offer a better understanding of this decisive action in the liberation of Western Europe. Bayeux War Cemetery - The location of the main British War Cemetery and the Memorial to the Missing. American Cemetery - Colleville-sur-Mer Overlooking Omaha Beach, the American cemetery contains 9,387 perfectly aligned white crosses on a 170 acre plot and a visitors centre. Omaha Beach Memorial Museum - Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer This 1200m² museum has a fine collection of uniforms, arms, vehicles and personal effects. German Cemetery - La Cambe This impressive necropolis brings together over 7 acres of 213,300 soldiers who fell during the fighting of 1944. Airbourne Museum - Sainte-mère-èglise The Longest Day is told in pictures and momentos detailing the operations carried out by the American 82^nd 101^stAirbourne divisions. Caen Memorial - Section dedicated to the 20^th Century. Topics include WWII, the reconstruction of the Cold War, the political stakes and the construction of peace.
