In this stylish Austrian city, standard German is spoken with pure and accurate pronunciation, enabling Language students to fine tune their communication and comprehension skills. Salzburg’s sophisticated society and world-class arts scene also allows students to enrich their linguistic and cultural understanding of German-speaking society.
On the banks of the River Salzach, overlooked by iced mountains, this theatrical city boasts an inspiring location. Majestic palaces, colourful houses and fine churches crowd its cobbled streets and elegant squares. Salzburg Cathedral and Hohensalzburg Castle (one of the largest castles in Europe) are found amongst the prolific baroque buildings in the beautiful Old Town. As the birthplace of Mozart and a setting for the Sound of Music, music and arts are embedded features of the Salzburg’s high-brow culture.
Students can rehearse their shopping and spending skills before venturing into one of the many markets to taste Mozartkugel and Wiener Melange. Enhance their understanding of the Austrian arts scene and add music terminology to your repertoire, by attending a concert at Mirabell Castle or listening to the glockenspiel in Residenz Square. Interact with the locals at informal coffee shops and university cafes, then head to the hills and sing along to the Sound of Music as they take a hike up Monchsberg Mountain.
