A politics study trip to Alsace brings you to Strasbourg, the heart of so many Pan-European developments. Take a boat trip around the city to observe the buildings where key political decisions are made. Extend your students' understanding in their studies of the EU with an opportunity to visit the European Parliament. This will provide an informative tour and if the parliament is in session there will be an opportunity to watch a debate. If you contact your MEPs before you travel you should find that at least one of them will be willing to meet your students to engage in a lively discussion on the workings of the parliament .
Also, based in Strasbourg is the Council of Europe, which has been operating for over 50 years to support democracy and human rights in Europe. While they can provide a general tour they will also put on a 2-3 hour study programme tailored to your needs. Nearby is the European Court of Human Rights. The court offers an hour long informational visit and whilst it is possible to attend a hearing at the court, it must be noted that they only occur approximately three times a month during school term time. This trip is bound to be an eye opening experience for your students.
