Easily accessible from the UK, and just 20 miles from Paris, Disneyland Paris is one of the world’s most exciting and explosive destinations for French Language students. With so many unusual and enticing opportunities for practicing and developing language competence, Disneyland Paris appeals to students and MFL teachers alike.
Opened in 1992, Disneyland Paris comprises of two theme parks, seven resort hotels and a retail, dining and entertainment area. Disneyland Park was the first theme park to open and is made up of five themed lands, which include: Main Street USA – based on a 1908 American town, Frontierland – themed on the Wild-West, and the three character based worlds of Adventureland, Fantasyland and Discoveryland. Walt Disney Studios Park was the second theme park instalment, offering an interactive experience of Hollywood film making in its four hands-on 'studio lots'.
Encourage students to ask Mickey Mouse for directions and order a themed lunch in French. Students can navigate through the five themed lands and apply their communication skills in unusual settings as they ride side saddle in the Wild West, buy souvenirs in Old Town America and have a chat with Buzz Lightyear. Pay tributes to the inventors of French cinema at the Front Lot in Walt Disney Studios Park and enable students to develop their confidence by asking questions about the secrets of Hollywood in the Production Lot.
