Discover Lille's Museum of Modern Art and explore its gardens to enjoy the works of major artists and movements including Picasso and Braque’s Cubist works, Fauvism and Surrealism. Encourage students to compare the revolutionary ideas of the twentieth century with innovative contemporary artists.
Second only to the Louvre in Paris, Lille Museum of Fine Arts houses paintings from the fifteenth to the twentieth centuries as well as major international works by Italian, German, Spanish and Dutch artists such as Raphael and Van Dyck. The museum has a complete collection of paintings showing the development of French painting from Neo Classicism to Impressionism. Enable students to see for themselves how ideas about painting developed as artists reacted to what had gone before.
Opened in 2001 and commonly known as ‘La Piscine’(swimming pool) the Museum of Art and Industry Andre Diligent was constructed around a former Art Deco swimming pool. The collection spans painting, sculpture, fashion, ceramics and design from the nineteenth century to the present day.
