Science in Loire Valley

The Loire Valley's riverine landscapes and natural habitats create a living laboratory of scientific discovery where students can explore wetlands and wildlife, as well as experience astounding multi-media exhibitions and participate in important conservation programs.

The Futuroscope theme-park is found near Poitiers and demonstrates staggering audio-visual techniques; students can explore themes such as space travel, habitat conservation and marine-life, in both 3D and 4D cinemas. Nearby is the Vallee des Singes (Monkey Valley), home to more than 350 primates. Not far from the city of Tours, the Zoo Park de Beauval has conservation at its heart, with endangered species such as Bengal tigers and snow leopards kept in carefully controlled habitats. A day-trip away, La Rochelle is home to a superb aquarium, with Mediterranean, Pacific and Atlantic zones, alongside turtle and jelly-fish study areas.

Follow prehistoric creatures through the ocean, join the Apollo 11 flight to the moon and dance with robots at Futuroscope. Study animal behaviour and predict changes to our environment at the Zoo Park. Apply scientific knowledge to the natural landscapes around you as you investigate the caves and wetlands of the Loire Valley. Get to grips with marine biology on an excursion to La Rochelle's Aquarium, where you can compare Atlantic sardines, Mediterranean boarfish and Pacific urchins.
