Geography in Normandy

Limestone cliffs, gently wooded hills and the granite outcrop of Mont St Michel, Normandy offers diverse geographical studies in a pleasant coastal environment, easily accessible from the UK.

Search for fossils on France’s ‘Jurassic’ coast, investigate renewable energy, water management and recycling at EANA sustainability park or step back in time at the D Day landing beaches to assess how geographical constraints significantly affected the progress of the 1944 invasion.

A highlight of any Normandy trip will be a visit to Mont St Michel where currently impressive engineering works are restoring this UNESCO site to its original marine setting. Students can identify how the river has silted up over the decades due to the nineteenth century causeway, and the sea is no longer able to circulate making the site now almost completely landlocked. This is a perfect location to consider river and coastal ecosystems and processes, and develop understanding of the long term impacts of tourism whilst witnessing one of Europe’s most fascinating landscaping projects in action.

Plus stay at our exclusive Château du Baffy which provides the perfect base for a tour of superb educational value and fascinating experiences.
