Proximity to the UK and diverse attractions make the Opal Coast a timeless favourite with Language students. Crammed with interactive activities, students can practise language skills in authentic markets and apply their understanding in historic, leisure and culinary settings.
Named by impressionist artists for its iridescent light patterns, the Opal Coast boasts 26 miles of shoreline, backed by white cliffs and dotted with sandy beaches and fishing villages. Sand yachting and kite-flying are popular past-times here, and snail and cheese farms are found throughout its undulating interior. Studded with history, the Opal Coast harbours medieval towns, gothic architecture and one of the world’s bloodiest battle-sites.
Enable your students to put their basic language skills into practise as they buy souvenirs and crepes in Le Touquet, or explore the food markets and seafood restaurants of Boulogne; the largest fishing port in France. Develop their range of vocabulary during chocolate-making demonstrations, and apply their linguistic knowledge in new situations as they experience snail farms and cheese-making workshops. Students can appreciate the relationships between France and England as they tour the battlefields of the Somme and walk through WWI trenches. Visit in winter time to test their shopping skills in Lille’s Christmas markets.
