Explore two thousand years of history in the capital city of Nimes, a Roman colony and the birthplace of denim. Visit Arles to paint the scenes that Van Gough studied, or visit the Roman baths and oval amphitheatre. Arrive in Avignon, a town wrapped in ramparts, and find out why it’s known as ‘The City of Popes’. Trek across the limestone peaks and arid valleys of the Alpilles Mountains to find fortified villages and ancient ruins. Count the arches of the Pont du Gard, or discover the saltpans and paddy fields of the Camarague, home to more than 500 species of birds.
