MFL in Florence

An inland city in Northern Italy, Florence is the epitome of Italian chic. Its compact and traffic free centre allows students the freedom to immerse themselves in the rich Florentine heritage and develop confidence in applying their language skills.

Long celebrated as one of Italy’s most beautiful cities, Florence’s appeal has been captured by writers and artists since the early 19th century. The capital, Tuscany has a fascinating heritage as the birthplace of the Renaissance and one of the wealthiest cities of the medieval period. Florence’s World Heritage listed centre is home to the Ponte Vecchio Bridge and the world famous Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral. With its lively piazzas and beguiling streets, a walking tour of Florence reveals new charms with every turn, from the romantic River Arno to the magnificent Palazzo Vecchio.

Your students can practise their shopping skills as they peruse the art dealers and jewellery shops along the Ponte Vecchio and ask for directions as they tour classic sights in the city-centre. Order antipasto in alfresco eateries and encourage your students to ask about the history of the Italian government at the Palazzo Vecchio. Add depth to their existing knowledge of colour and form by taking them to study the Italian masters in the Uffizi museum.
