MFL in Venice

Located in the north of Italy, Venice is on every Italian Language student's wish-list. Traffic-free streets make for easy exploration, allowing students to fully immerse themselves in the Venetian culture and Italian language.

World famous for its watercourses, architecture and art, Venice is widely regarded as one of the most romantic cities on the planet. An empire of Renaissance artworks, its artisans are just as prolific today and can be found blowing glass, sculpting masks and painting canvases in workshops throughout the city.  At the heart of Venice is Piazza San Marco; a much loved square surrounded by boutiques and tasteful cafes. Doge’s Palace is one of the most impressive examples of Venice’s esteemed architecture, but to take a more complete view of the city, ascend to the illustrious dome of the Basilica.

Test your students' navigation skills as they tour the city’s islands and bridges. Your group can buy fresh foods in Rialto Market, or shop for shoes and lace as they encounter independent artisans.  Put their reading skills into practice to translate seafood menus and information boards, and encourage them to learn new terminology as they experience abundant art galleries and astounding architecture. Challenge your students further by encouraging them to find out more about the ancient waterways or ask about the historic inmates that crossed the Bridge of Sighs.
