Geography in Marrakech

Explore another land, investigate another culture and step back into another century. Morocco offers an exciting trip of contrasts; densely populated cities enclosed by remote rural landscapes, poverty juxtaposed with wealth, desert terrain backed by snow capped mountains. This is a unique opportunity for your students to challenge their perceptions of a developing country and consider life on the margins without travelling too great a distance.

Take an adventure through craggy valleys, arid deserts and lush valleys. Students will develop understanding of how Berber communities adapt to live in this harsh, yet beautiful environment. Encourage your students to explore the High Atlas created by collision of the European and African plates, where the mountains are surprisingly snow covered during the winter months. Visit Imlil for fieldwork studies on desertification, water and soil management, irrigation systems, agriculture and rural settlement.

Delve into the tangle of narrow alleys at the souk, Marrakech will excite, jangle the nerves and plunge your group into a world apart from their own. Prepare your students to be swept away by the infused riot of sounds, smells and colours.
