If you are studying international Politics then The Hague is one of the world's great political cities. It houses over 150 international organisations and is surprisingly small and so easy to get around. Perhaps the most famous institution is the International Criminal Court, which exists to prosecute individuals for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity. The court provides a 90 minute briefing on its work though do note that students have to be at least 16 years old. There is also the fantastic opportunity to attend a court hearing and see the court in operation. Even more in the news at the moment is the UN Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and they will organise lectures and discussions with Tribunal representatives for your group. The Hague also contains the International Court of Justice but it is not so easy to attend a hearing as the maximum group size is 25, though you can take a guided tour of the Peace Palace which houses the court.
If you are studying European Politics then significantly The Hague is the seat of the Dutch Government. You can book a tour, which includes a film presentation, of the Dutch Parliament in the historic Binnenhof.
