The Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow is focused on Russian Art from the eleventh century to contemporary works. Paintings, sculptures and graphic design include works by Chagall and Kandinsky.
Continuing interest in Russian art and culture, the State Central Museum of Contemporary History owns collections of photographs, documents, applied arts, graphic arts, sculpture and, even, sound recordings. Of interest to Art students are Russian paintings from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The State Pushkin Museum of Visual Art owns vast French Impressionist and Post impressionist paintings.
The Moscow Museum of Modern Art opened in 1999 houses work from the early twentieth century including Picasso, Dali, Miro as well as a collection of 'avant garde' Russian artists such as Malevich. The State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg has a vast collection of art from prehistoric times to now. Western European paintings from major art movements alongside decorative arts from Holland, Spain, Germany and France are included in the collection.
The Museum of Applied Arts has over thirty thousand exhibits, including furniture, porcelain,metalwork and carvings. For more contemporary work students can visit the Erarta and Novy museums who promote Russian artists. The Erarta's collection of paintings spans from the end of World War two to the present day. The Novy Museum shows the development of contemporary Russian Art from the nineteen fifties until the present day.

6 Days to Moscow & St Petersburg by Air
Day 1:
Travel to Moscow by air and meet your transfer to take you to your accommodation.
Day 2:
Morning guided tour of Moscow to see some of the major sights including the Red Square, Lenin's Mausoleum and St Basil's Cathedral and the Stalinst Wedding Cake architecture. Enjoy a panoramic view over the city. Spend the afternoon visiting the Kremlin, including entrance to one of the cathedrals. In the evening enjoy the circus.
Day 3:
An escorted trip on the beautifully decorated Metro system, alighting at stations of interest. In the afternoon visit Pushkin Fine Arts Museum and Tretyakov Gallery. Depart on the overnight sleeper train to St Petersburg.
Day 4:
Arrive at St Petersburg in the morning and transfer to your accommodation. Spend the morning on a guided orientation coach tour of St Petersburg. Highlights include The Winter Palace, The Kazan Cathedral, The Marinsky Palace, The Summer Garden, and Church of the Spilled Blood. Afternoon excursion to the Peter and Paul Fortress.
Day 5:
Half day excursion to St Isaac's Cathedral. Spend the rest of the day visiting the Hermitage museum and the Russian museum followed by a Folklore evening.
Day 6:
Check out of your accommodation and time permitting visit the Piskarovskoye War Memorial. Meet your transfer to the airport for your return flight.
