This industrialised country of fairy-tale castles, dense forests and sprawling vineyards, nurtured some of Europe’s most renowned composers, influential philosophers and notorious political leaders. A beautiful country with a distressing past, Germany offers a valuable insight into the makings of modern Europe and invites students to ask key questions about human ethics, morality and reform.
Investigate Berlin’s disturbing history in the city’s wealth of WWII memorials and museums; examine the capital’s energetic reinvention and ambitious outlook following reunification. Explore dense woodlands, discover the source of the Danube and learn how to craft a cuckoo-clock in the beautiful Black Forest. Follow vine-rich river valleys in Rhineland and Mosel; discover Bavarian folk dancing and world-class galleries in Munich.
Germany’s vivid history and striking beauty will inspire and engage students of all disciplines. Whilst exploring specific subject areas and gaining confidence in German language skills, students can develop an empathetic and well-informed understanding of a key country in the UK’s recent history.
