South East Germany harbours one of the world’s favourite cities. Munich offers a privileged opportunity for language students to develop their communication and comprehension skills, whilst experiencing authentic German culture in a welcoming, progressive and successful city.
Widely regarded as an immensely hospitable destination, Munich is packed with astounding palaces and innovative businesses. With a historic park at its heart, it’s cut through by the River Isar and watched over by the beautiful Bavarian Alps. Amongst the city’s many treasures is a former royal palace of the Bavarian monarchs and the inspiring Kunstareal district – a concentrated area of world class art galleries. The best view of the city can be seen by climbing the towers of the Frauenkirche; the city’s largest and most impressive cathedral.
Students can get to grips with money-handling and shopping-lingo in Munich’s daily outdoor farmer’s market. Test your students map reading skills as they navigate out of Marienplatz square to explore the city’s landmarks and historical architecture. Encourage your students to identify familiar plant species in the English Garden and stretch their comprehension skills in one of the oldest and largest science and technology museums in the world. Take a day trip into the Bavarian Alps to enable your students to gain a wider perspective of Germany’s diverse culture and geography. Visit the fairytale Neuschwanstein which has featured in several films including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and inspired the creation of Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle.
