Munich is a city of music. With its many orchestras and choirs, jazz stages and festivals, Munich stands out as a culturally versatile place where music can be enjoyed in its many variations, from baroque music to metal and hip hop. The city is so involved with its music scene that it actually subsidizes a lot of the performing arts events in the city and admission to these events and festivals is often free of charge! There is a wonderful selection of venues for choirs including Asamkirche, with its outstanding rococo interior, the Bürgersaal and St Catjean (Theatinkirche), one of the most magnificent churches in Munich. For a larger choir there is the monumental St Michael’s Church, the massive barrel vaulting over the nave is the second largest after St Peter’s Basilica in Rome or the Frauenkirche, which dominates the Marienplatz in the heart of the city.
