Occupying a significant slice of Germany’s western border, the Rhineland presents an awe-inspiring language immersion experience. Whilst developing linguistic competence, students can learn about the history and legends of this romantic region and get to grips with the Rhineland’s rich culture.
Germany’s major wine region harbours fertile valleys drenched in luxurious vineyards, cut through by the Rhine and Mosel rivers. Forested hilltops are dotted with fairy-tale castles and timber-clad villages, which overlook the World Heritage listed gorge. The historic city of Cologne is home to an immense gothic cathedral and was recently crowned Germany’s ‘Media capital’. As the country’s former capital city, Bonn has a fascinating history and today is a major hub of international business and a leader in sustainable development.
Practise money handling and basic language skills as you shop for souvenirs and order Bratwurst sausages, or visit in winter to experience the Christmas markets. Develop your comprehension skills further by unveiling fascinating folklores, and expand your terminology base by learning about the intricate architecture of the Rhineland castles and the geographic features of the natural terrain. Apply your skills in unusual settings, when you tour the torture chambers at Rudesheim or ride the rollercoasters at Phantasialand.
