Ride the revolving cable car to the top of Table Mountain, to examine its unique climate and ecosystem, watch out for squirrel-like Dassies darting in and out of the rocks. Nestling under Table Mountain's steep slopes Kirstenbosch Gardens offers students excellent opportunities to study the rich biodiversity of South Africa. Head towards Cape Point where whales can be witnessed breaching close to the shoreline, or take a stroll along a beach where penguins bask amongst granite rocks. Cruise across the Knysna Lagoon, then climb high into the Featherbed Nature Reserve on a trailer ride. Walk through forest, fynbos and coastal caves to discover the ecological diversity of this coastal region. Drive inland across the Great Karoo to a semi desert land of ostrich farms, investigate the adaptations of these strange almost reptilian creatures. Then descend into the cool Cango Caves to consider the processes at work in the making of extraordinary limestone formations.
The Cape Town region will undoubtedly surprise and amaze your students and presents unrivalled opportunities to study animal behaviour and natural processes, whilst developing their field and research skills in an exciting cultural setting.
