A successful world city and centre of arts and international commerce, this Mediterranean port town offers unrivalled opportunities for language students to fully immerse themselves in Catalan culture and put Spanish speaking skills into practice in engaging everyday contexts.
As the capital of Catalonia, Barcelona is renowned for its avant-garde architecture and high spirited inhabitants. A shrine to the architect Antoni Gaudi, of his many masterpieces found across the city the Sagada Familia is best known. For more authentic Spanish architecture, the Poble Espanyol showcases replica Spanish buildings from across the country. Spain’s second largest city, Barcelona is one of the world’s leading tourist, economic and cultural centres and its seven urban beaches are rated as some of the best in the world.
Tune your students' speaking and listening skills into the Catalan dialect when they order stews and sausages in alfresco eateries. Build on their basic language skills as they shop for souvenirs along Las Ramblas and develop their communication abilities further as they encounter artisans and carpenters in Poble Espanyol. Put their knowledge of sports into real life contexts when you take them to visit the Olympic stadium and get to grips with football lingo in the Barcelona FC Museum.
