MFL in Madrid

Spain’s capital is a major global city, revealing everyday Spanish city life, alongside world class galleries and museums. Balancing modern infrastructure with historic neighbourhoods, language students can apply their linguistic understanding whilst developing an appreciation for Spanish heritage.

Taking sport and arts to a new level, Madrid flaunts award-winning flamenco dancers, exceptional art galleries, outstanding museums and one of the best football teams in the world. Seat of the government and home of the Spanish monarch, Madrid has the largest Royal Palace in Western Europe. Of the city’s many plazas, Puetro del Sol is the most central and Plaza de la Villa is the most historic. A panoramic view of Spain’s largest city can be seen by taking a cable car ride on the Teleferico.

Students can get their bearings on an open top bus tour and enjoy shopping for a bargain at the Rastro; Madrid’s weekly flea market. Identify natural features in Retiro Park and get to grips with football lingo at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. Order ‘chocolate con churros’ and try tapas in a classic taverna. Expand students' artistic knowledge in the Prado, see Picasso’s Guernica in the Reina Sofia and learn about a Spanish legend in the Goya museum. Or take a trip to visit the fascinating medieval city of Toledo perched on its craggy hill top.
