MFL in Northern Spain

This mountainous and coastal region of northwest Spain is home to some of the country’s richest archaeological sites and greenest landscapes. Language students will particularly appreciate the pure Spanish language spoken here.

This verdant region is known for its mild climate, fascinating archaeology and lush landscapes. Seven National Parks are spread across the region, with UNESCO World Heritage sites, such as the Caves of Altamira, adding to the appeal. The regional capital of Santander is a major international port town, lined with sandy beaches. The former industrial city of Bilbao is now an important tourist destination and home of the European Guggenheim museum. Historic monuments and ancient artefacts can be found across the region, from the medieval town of Santillana del Mar, to the rural hamlet of Potes.

Add geographical terminology to your students repertoire, as they venture into the Picos de Europa National Park and experience Green Spain. Develop their understanding of Spanish heritage as they discover ancient paintings in the Cantabrian caves and they can ask about the history of the traditional language. Perfect your students' pronunciation from listening carefully to the pure form of Spanish spoken here and attend an international fiesta or local festival to celebrate Northern Spain's regional identity and heritage.
