Visit the stylish city of Geneva, where your students can investigate how a country with so few natural resources has established such a financially stable and prosperous economy.
Take a walking tour through the city’s gleaming streets to unpick its economic development from the Middle Ages into today’s flourishing financial centre. Known for precision engineering, Switzerland's third largest export is still in timepieces with Swiss watches found across the globe. The wearing of the man’s wristwatch is surprisingly less than one hundred years old and developed as a market response to WWI conditions when fob watches became inappropriate. Students can visit workshops to obseve how watches are designed and manufactured and consider the huge costs of marketing for these high-end products.
Take your students behind the scenes at the central Post Office to investigate efficient sorting, distribution and transportation methods. They will observe business operations on a television centre tour of Suisse Romande or they can relax on a boat trip to admire the prosperous homes and gardens of Geneva’s wealthy suburbs.
