With the success the Scottish devolution a trip to the capital of Scotland is an ideal place to explore the so called Devolution Experiment. The Scottish parliament offers, free, one hour guided tours of the amazing building, but if you visit while the parliament is in session then far more is available. You will probably need to split your group, but up to 15 tickets can be booked to watch debates take place in the debating chamber, which looks so different from its Westminster cousin. Furthermore, up to 15 tickets can also be booked to watch Committees in action.
Nearby is the National Museum of Scotland and if you contact them in advance they will organise guided tours tailored to your needs and interests. For instance; Scotland: A Changing Nation gallery does concentrate on Scotland in the 20th and 21st centuries. Encourage your students to investigate the People’s Story Museum on the Golden Mile which concentrates on the lives of the ordinary inhabitants of Edinburgh, discover the conditions that lead to various historical protest movements.
