Edinburgh is bursting with both historical and cutting-edge science attractions, which allow students to appreciate the past contributions made to modern science, as well as recognise the purpose of contemporary breakthroughs in technology.
Our Dynamic Earth invites students to follow an interactive journey of the planet's evolution, from the Big Bang to the possible future; students can explore polar, tropical and local regions through time, or experience rocket launches and space travel. Taking an experimental approach towards learning, the Science of Technology Gallery brings science to life, in the form of Formula 1 racing and human cloning. To step back in time, Edinburgh's Victorian Camera Obscura is found within a rooftop chamber; this giant periscope takes optical illusions to another level and hosts the largest hologram exhibitions in Europe.
Encounter extinct dinosaurs, fly over glaciers in prehistoric Scotland and debate the causes of climate change at Our Dynamic Earth. Trace the history of science and innovation from road-bikes to space-rockets, at the Science and Technology Gallery. Experience how 18th century science still impresses in the 21st century, as you pick up people and squash them in your hands at the Camera Obscura show.
