Politics in London

If your students are studying British Politics then there is nowhere better to visit than London. What better place to start than Parliament. You can contact your MP for tickets, which will include a tour of both houses. However, it is often better to contact Parliament’s Education Department direct, as they not only organise the tours but also offer a number of study programmes for KS5 students, which may involve meeting your MP if they are available. They also offer seasonal workshops on a variety of topics so it is worth trying to arrange your trip to fit in with one of these. As far as watching debates are concerned, ask your local MP for tickets, although they may well find it difficult to get hold of a large number, otherwise, it’s a case of joining the queue!

Located just across Parliament Square is the latest addition to the UK political scene, the Supreme Court. They offer guided tours which can be tailored to meet the needs of your group. There is also an exhibition space with interactive content.

While your students are in Westminster they can join a guided tour to Westminster Abbey, resting place of a number of leading UK politicians.
