Geography in New York

A superb opportunity to focus on human geography in one of the world’s most exciting urban environments. Students can trace the historical growth and development of the diverse urban sectors and appreciate the characteristics which define New York as a leading world city.

Students will get their bearings, as they enjoy iconic skyline views from a boat trip of the bay. Stop off to discover the international origins of immigrants at Ells Island or visit the Statue of Liberty, which for many newcomers in the past was their first sight of the United States. Explore the city on foot, with a guide, to discover how urban zones have been refashioned and rebranded through gentrification and redevelopment. Visit the 9/11 Memorial to consider global conflict and the impacts of the event; reflect on the heroic rescues made here. Stroll down Wall Street, the financial capital of the world, or take a guided tour of the United Nations. Get geological on guided tours of planet earth or investigate climate change as you delve into the environmental sciences at the vast American Museum for Natural History.

To escape the buzzing crowds, head into to the Catskills Mountains where your students can study farming methods or investigate sustainability at the Renewal Energy Centre. Or simply take them to relax in leafy Central Park, listening to the sounds of this buzzing twenty-four-hour city.
