Ever wondered what women artists were doing throughout Art History? Find out by visiting the National Museum of Women in the Arts which celebrates women's art across time and nationalities, including Georgia O’Keefe, Frida Kahlo and Sonia Delauney.
Concentrating solely on the role of contemporary art and the experience and understanding of audiences, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden will challenge your students' thinking. The Hirshhorn is part of the Smithsonian group of museums whose vast collections span wider subjects than Art and Design. American, African art and portraits are well represented. The National Gallery of Art houses a wide range of work including the decorative arts and photography from the sixteenth to the twenty-first centuries.
Both the National Gallery and the Corcoran have a programme of exhibitions. For an invigorating experience of contemporary artwork take your group to the Art Museum of the Americas which focuses on Latin American and Caribbean artists.
