Prague is a magical city which casts a spell over its visitors. The city of a hundred spires was mercifully saved from mass destruction during World War II and is one of the best preserved mediaeval cities in Europe.
Prague is built on several hills and lies on either side of the River Vltava. Hradcany (the castle area) is dominated by the Castle and St Vitus Cathedral, lending a real mediaeval atmosphere to this side of the city.
The main city square of Prague is situated in the Staré Mesto (old town) area and is the location of the famous Astronomical Clock and many interesting shops and cafés. The other main area is Wenceslas Square, which leads on to Na Príkope, the city's main shopping street.
