Day 1 — UK/Nairobi. Your scheduled flight departs London this evening, arriving in Nairobi early the following morning.
Day 2 — Nairobi/Rift Valley. On arrival at Nairobi you will be met by your Driver/Guide, and transferred along the escarpment of the magnificent Rift Valley towards Nakuru. A stop can be made at the Rift Valley look out point for superb views. Your home for this evening is Greensteds School, located just outside Nakuru in the heart of the Rift Valley. After lunch at Greensteds School, an afternoon visit to Nakuru National Park, famous for its prolific bird life – especially its flamingoes, but you may also see rhino, buffalo, giraffe and lion. It is one of the best places in Kenya to see the elusive leopard.
Day 3 — Rift Valley/Marich Pass. After an early breakfast depart Nakuru, and drive to the Marich Pass Centre. The drive takes you through some of the most impressive scenery in Kenya and through several different climatic and vegetation zones. You will also make a photo-stop at the Equator. This will take most of the day, arriving at Marich later this afternoon. Spend the rest of the evening exploring the immediate area of the camp, river and settling into your 'bandas'.
Day 4 — Sigor and Water Project. This morning we visit the local market town of Sigor. Later, a visit is made to the water irrigation project. This is a unique project funded by International Aid, incorporating a system of overhead sprinklers. Alternatively, make a visit to the Turkwell Dam and Gorge and Hydroelectric Plant, inside the Nasalot Game Reserve. This visit must be booked in advance and involves a payment for entry to the park.
Day 5 — Wei Wei Valley & Local School. A simple guided hill walk this morning into the Cherangangi Hills to visit Pokot homesteads and the local people of 'Marich', concluding with a stop at Marich School, allowing you to meet the teachers and of course the children (school holidays permitting). Return to the centre for lunch by the riverside. Free time this afternoon.
Day 6 — Local Market. Drive to a local market, where the 'locals' will gather from many miles away, to buy and sell their produce - mainly fruit, vegetables and crops. However, the main point of the markets is to meet and catch up on the news. A truly colourful event and a highlight of the week for most groups. Return to the centre for lunch. After lunch take a guided botany walk through the bush. You will learn the fascinating double lives of much of the flora and fauna…such as which leaf makes a good toothpaste and which root cures headaches.
Day 7 — Elephant Habitat. For the VERY early risers, an opportunity to examine the habitat of some large local wildlife on the Elephant Trek with one of the camp guides. Return to Marich in time to join the others for breakfast, before a full days excursion to Kenya's newest National Park, South Turkana. This is a fantastic opportunity for groups to see at first hand the development of the tourist infrastructure of this park, rich in wildlife, flora and fauna.
Day 8 — Marich/Nairobi/UK. Depart Marich early this morning and drive back to Nairobi with picnic en route for the return flight back to the UK later this evening. It is possible, for a small supplement, to provide 'day-rooms' and dinner in a Nairobi hotel to freshen up before your flight.
