Accommodation

Accommodation throughout The Garden Route Tour is provided in comfortable, 2 and 3 Star hotels. Student rooms are normally for 2 students. Occasionally one rollaway bed is used to provide triple rooms. Staff are accommodated in twin rooms. Limited single rooms are available at a supplement. All rooms have air conditioning, full en suite bathrooms and colour TV, usually with satellite. Hotels have their own restaurants where excellent meals are served. They also have bars and lounges and sometimes live music in the evening.

Fly from London to Cape Town during midweek. Return to London from Durban via Johannesburg.

Sample Itinerary - 10 DAYS TO SOUTH AFRICA BY AIR

  • Day 1 — UK/Cape Town. Your scheduled flight leaves London for the overnight flight to Cape Town.
  • Day 2 — Cape Town. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Cape Town. Rest of the morning to unwind after the flight and relax. This afternoon, weather permitting, take the revolving cable car to the top of Table Mountain for an awe inspiring panorama of this most beautiful city. Overnight Cape Town.
  • Day 3 — Cape Town and the Cape of Good Hope. A full day excursion through the fishing villages and resorts of the southern Cape to the actual Cape itself where a brisk walk up to the lighthouse is rewarded with 360° views of the peninsular and the southern Atlantic and Indian Oceans. A stop is made en route to see the nesting grounds of the colonies of jackass penguins. At certain times of the year you may also see whales ‘breaching’ and ‘fluming’ just off the coast in their natural breeding grounds. Overnight Cape Town.
  • Day 4 — Cape Town/Oudtshoorn. Leaving Cape Town after breakfast we take the inland road, Route 62, through the dramatic arid valley environments of the Klein Karoo to the ostrich capital of the world, the quaint resort town of Oudtshoorn. Time this afternoon to visit the famed Cheetah Reserve. Dinner and overnight in Oudtshoorn.
  • Day 5 — Oudtshoorn/Knysna. This morning you visit the world famous Cango Caves with their array of vast limestone stalagtites and stalagmites, regarded as one of Africa’s most impressive natural attractions. On to an Ostrich Farm for an explanation of the way these strange birds are reared and raised. On this afternoon to the beautiful town of Knysna with time for a little shopping before dinner. Overnight Knysna.
  • Day 6 — Knysna. This morning we enjoy a cruise on the tranquil Knysna lagoon before a visit to the Featherbed Nature Reserve. Marvel at the natural rock formation known as ‘The Heads’ standing guard at the lagoons exit to the Indian Ocean. Time this afternoon to relax at your hotel or perhaps indulge in some inexpensive souvenir shopping. Overnight Knysna.
  • Day 7 — Knysna/Port Elizabeth. Travel along the most picturesque part of the famed Garden Route and through the Tsitsikamma Forest and the rugged coastline to the pretty seaside resort of Port Elizabeth. Time to enjoy the delights of this popular resort before dinner and overnight Port Elizabeth.
  • Day 8 — Port Elizabeth/Durban. A day’s drive by coach or a short flight (at a supplement, quoted on request) to Durban. Overnight in Durban.
  • Day 9 — Durban/UK. This morning we pay a visit to the Natal Shark Board for an impressive multi-media presentation on the work of the board and information on one of the world’s most dangerous predators. Later afternoon transfer to Durban Airport to begin your return journey to the UK, usually via Johannesburg.
  • Day 10 — Arrive UK. Your flight arrives in London this morning

    Final Meal - Breakfast and packed lunch on Day 9.
