The Battlefields of Gallipoli provide pupils with an atmospheric, alternative view of the events of WWI, studying a campaign beset by poor planning and lack of leadership, as well as the remarkable heroism of British, French, Australian and New Zealand soldiers.
Cape Helles provided the landing beaches for the main force of 35,000 men, where after two weeks, little progress had been made and one third of the force had been lost.
All Gallipoli elements of the tour include a local guide. As well as visiting Gallipoli, there is the opportunity to visit other historic Turkish sights, including Troy and the many ancient attractions of Istanbul.

Excursion Selection
History & Landmarks Cape Helles - The landing beaches for the main force of 35,000 men, where little progress was made and with one third of the force lost after 2 weeks. The memorial at the end of the peninsular commemorates the 20,771 soldiers and sailors who fell in the campaign and have no known graves.
Anzac Cove - The landing place for 17,000 men from the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (Anzacs) under the command of Sir William Birdwood. Surrounded by deep cliffs and possibly a mile north of their intended destination, 50% of the initial wave ashore at Anzac was killed, wounded or missing.
Ari Burnu Cemetery - At the northern tip of Anzac Cove, where the Dawn Service is held each ANZAC Day.
Kabatepe War Museum - Kabatepe War Museum contains relics from the campaign, including original diary extracts and letters.
Krithia and Achi Baba - Key objectives for the allies if they were to proceed along the Gallipoli peninsular. Two attempts to capture these positions resulted in tactical gains of 600 yards, but at a cost of 30% of those engaged.
Lone Pine - The site of the successful attack and capture of Turkish trenches by the Australians during the August offensive. Australian cemetery and memorial with 1,167 graves and the names of 4,930 Australian and New Zealand soldiers who have no known graves.
