Berlin
Berlin has a uniquely varied, rich and disturbing history from the Prussian kings to the Weimar Republic, the rise of Nazism and reunification. The capital of a reunified Germany since 1990, Berlin has undergone a vast transformation to reinstate the city as a modern international centre. From 1961 until 1989 the city was divided by the awesome Berlin Wall, the great divide between the Communism of the East and the Capitalism of the West. The wall resulted from the city’s divided sectors following WWII in which Berlin played such a critical role. The changing face of world politics was symbolised by the fall of this once almost impenetrable barrier. A visit to this vibrant city brings many major events of modern history to life. Berlin is an exciting youthful city which can be experienced on many different levels exploring a range of educational themes.

This slow, meandering river flows through some of the prettiest scenery in Germany. The river is dotted with romantic castles and quaint towns which nestle among the terraced vineyards whose harvest is used to produce the famous Riesling wine. With a more tranquil atmosphere than the busy Rhine, the Moselle Valley offers an excellent choice of excursions in both the surrounding area and further afield in the Rhineland.
